Happy Labor Day, Everyone!
I encourage you read Robert Reich’s Blog entry for Friday, September 4th, on The Real News About Jobs and Wages -- An Ode to Labor Day
You can find it at: http://robertreich.blogspot.com/
I want to remind you that the first interview assignment (Employment, Care, Work & Justice Interview & Gender & Class Analysis Paper) has two due dates. You need to send me information about the women you selected for the first interview. The woman must have had a child during her working life. This woman does not necessary need to have children currently at home but must have worked at sometime while she had children. Your interview subject may be single, married or divorced. A one page description is due on September 13th at midnight. Please e-mail me the one page as an attachment.

I hope it is okay to comment here on the blog you suggested from Robert Reich. He makes some valid points but I am a serious lefty liberal who actually likes Senator Olympia Snowe and thinks that her "trigger" option has merit. Let me be clear on what I am saying: It has merit in terms of how Washington and politics work. I disagree with Mr. Reich when he says that health care will become a dead issue if the trigger option is passed. Just knowing that they have 5 short years to make change will cause the insurance companies to look at new ways of doing things just like what we did with GM. It is at best an ultimatum. Senator Snowe has garnered my trust and respect in large part because of her record in office and some other incredible programs that Maine has chosen to implement in place of federal programs like Maine Parents as Scholars. We need many more hard working and critically thinking Senators such as Olympia Snowe who commit as much time to action as they do words. I am a fierce defender of the public option but a realist as well. Washington thinks and works at a slower pace than the rest of us. But I honestly believe the "trigger" option warrants some consideration. Would really like to hear some other thoughts:)
